Customer by the thousand: Deceuninck NV

Our customer out of the thousand for this month is Deceuninck NV. We know the West Flemish plastics processing company Deceuninck mainly as a world market leader in PVC window and door profiles. But even market leaders face challenges. Raw material prices have tripled over the past three years and finding skilled personnel is proving a challenge. Fortunately, the company breathes innovation and came knocking on MEET HET’s door for a digital twin of all their sites.

“With MEET HET, we mapped the site in Leroy,” says Klaas Soenen, Continuous Improvement Engineer at Deceuninck. “There, we measured the production hall and then got a point cloud of it because adjustments have to be made to the roof.” Indeed, such a point cloud is very time-saving for companies with large sites. All the information is at hand and adjustments can be quickly viewed and made without having to return to the site each time. “Without MEET HET we would have to do more manual work with such a laser beam and possibly a roller meter and then wonder: is that measured correctly?” laughs Klaas.

At MEET HET, we put our hands up to the fact that such measurements are accurate to 2 cm: “Which in itself is very accurate, although I think it is even more precise,” Klaas reflects. “The measurements took about four hours. A week after that we had the point clouds. Fantastic service!”

Immediately, Klaas and his colleagues tried to get started with that, “But we still found that we needed support from someone who knows the OpenBuildings Designer software package,” Klaas says.

That support came from Ronny Verbruggen of 4D Select NV. He also brought Deceuninck NV into contact with MEET HET, and that’s how the ball got rolling: “Two weeks later we were already measuring,” Klaas continues. “Ronny had previously trained us on the ‘open building designer’ package. He showed us how to use point clouds.” Although Klaas doesn’t dare claim that they have 100% mastery of the software. “We draw our plan to convert information from the point cloud to a 3D drawing. But for support we can count on Ronny’s knowledge.”

“We drew out the structure. Then we made the platform which we then placed in the structure. That way we can see if a machine is running through that leg.” They also drew out the piping of all the raw materials. “That way we can see if there are no collisions with the feed pipes,” Klaas explains.

For the technology, Klaas has nothing but praise: “I was really amazed at what is already possible there. Personally, I found that really incredible how much time you save with this.” Klaas therefore recommends the technology: “It is great added value to have everything of your company in a point cloud, which you can then later convert to a 3D drawing. That way you don’t have to go and look on site every time.”
